Does Nebulb work for processing deep space objects?

Nebulb is a software specially designed for landscape astrophotography, taking into account both the type of equipment usually used by night photographers (short/medium focal length lenses and unmodified cameras), as well as the main types of pictures usually taken in this discipline (Milky Way, star trails and meteor showers).

That said, it is true that Nebulb can also be used to process deep space images (nebulae, galaxies...).

Being a stacking software (which automatically detects and aligns the stars in all images) and thanks to the light pollution reduction module (which allows to greatly reduce the light gradients in the sky, bringing out all the information underneath) it is possible to obtain very surprising results in a really simple way.

Here are a couple of examples of such images processed only with Nebulb:

Andromeda Galaxy (M31), next to which can also be seen the galaxies M110 and M32

    • How much disk space does Nebulb need?

The installation of Nebulb requires between 250 MB (for the normal version) and about 2 GB of disk (for the GPU version). That said, during the stacking process Nebulb needs a temporary working folder in which to store all the progress it makes. ...
    • Can dark frames be used in Nebulb?

Nebulb performs stacking and noise reduction without using dark or bias frames, since they are not really necessary in landscape astrophotography. The reason is that when an equatorial mount (star tracker) is not used, the sky moves slightly for each ...
    • Can Nebulb be installed on Windows 7?

No. Nebulb can be installed on a 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 (both x64 and arm64 architecture). A few years ago Microsoft decided to stop releasing updates for Windows 7 and this has meant that the latest components used by Nebulb are not compatible with ...
    • I have a light pollution filter, should I still use it if I am going to process the images with Nebulb?

Very good question and the answer depends largely on the type of filter you have: If it's a narrow band filter (the ones typically used in deep space astrophotography) then I would opt to keep it, since, those filters work really well because they ...
    • Error when saving a Nebulb project on a Mac

The most likely reason for this to happen is that there is not enough memory available in the Windows 11 virtual machine (Parallels Desktop) for Nebulb to be able to save all the project information on the hard disk. To avoid this problem what you ...
