In the "Stack" module (located in the right tool panel) there are all the necessary options to configure and execute the stacking, that is to say, this is where the user indicates the tasks to be performed by Nebulb during stacking, as well as controls its execution (start/pause/reset the stacking process).
And in particular, the buttons at the top of this module are for controlling the execution of the stacking:
Below is the function of each of these buttons:
Process a single image in order to apply light pollution reduction on it
While the image is being processed (to estimate its light pollution) this button is disabled (cannot be pressed) and displayed in orange:
And when the individual image processing is completed, this button is displayed in orange with a check mark. At this point the post-processing modules (right tool panel) are enabled so that the user can make any desired adjustments to the image, such as reducing light pollution.
IMPORTANT: In case multiple images have been imported, only the image selected as base by Nebulb (the one that is chronologically in the middle) is processed by means of this button. The processing (stacking) of all images is done by the following button.
Execute stacking of all imported images
The next button allows you to start the stacking process of all imported images in Nebulb:
While the stacking process is running, this button is disabled (cannot be pressed) and displayed in orange.
And when the stacking is finished, this button is displayed in orange with a check mark. At this point the post-processing modules (right tool panel) are enabled so that the user can make any desired adjustments to the image, such as reducing light pollution.
Refine stacking
The stacking refinement button (shown below) is always disabled when stacking (or processing of an individual image) has not been completed.
And when the stacking (or processing of an individual image) is finished, this button appears orange:
That said, in case the user modifies the time of the night for which the sky is aligned (in the bottom time slider) this button appears enabled and grayed out, as you can see in the image below:
This button is useful when, after finishing the stacking, you want to align the sky according to a different time of the night than the original base image (something very common especially in the processing of meteor showers to align the meteors according to the time of the night that offers a greater visual impact).
By pressing this button Nebulb performs a micro-stacking focused on the time of the night selected by the user, thanks to which it is possible to obtain the best possible result (in terms of noise and light pollution reduction) for any time of the night.
And to refine the stacking (once the stacking has been completed) it is only necessary to perform 3 simple steps:
- Select the time of the night for which you want to leave the sky aligned (using the bottom time slider).
- Press the button that modifies the selected base image. By pressing this button the sky will be displayed as it was at the time of the night selected in the previous step.
- Press the stacking refinement button. When doing so Nebulb performs a micro-stacking, centered on the new base image and with the time interval selected in "Stacking refinement interval".
Once the stacking refinement is completed, this button appears again in orange, indicating that the displayed image is the one on which the rest of the images have been aligned to reduce noise during stacking.
Pause stacking
The button below allows you to pause the stacking process at any time. By default it is disabled and is only enabled during the execution of the stacking (so that the user can pause it if desired).
- Pause button disabled because no stacking is running at the moment:
- Pause button enabled because a stacking is currently running (and in case of pressing it the stacking will be paused):
- This button also appears disabled and in orange if stacking has been paused:
And in order to resume a previously paused stack you only need to press the run stack button (the one below). At that moment Nebulb will detect that the stacking was already started previously and will continue where it was going (it will not run it again from the beginning).
Reset stacking
In case you want to completely reset the stacking to run it again from the beginning (which is necessary in case you want to modify the stacking configuration) you can do it by using the button to reset the stacking.
- When stacking has not been executed (or processing of an individual image) this button is disabled:
- And when stacking (or stacking refinement) is completed or paused this button is enabled to allow the user to reset the stacking done:
In the case of pressing this button and confirming the message that appears, Nebulb deletes all the information generated during stacking and the project remains as it was before stacking.
IMPORTANT 1: This action cannot be undone, i.e. if you reset the stacking and save the project the only way to get the stacked image back is to run the complete stacking again.
IMPORTANT 2: In the case that you have performed a stacking refinement, the reset button applies first on the refinement, not on the initial stacking. That is, in case you press the reset button, having previously refined the stacking, what Nebulb will do is to discard the stacking refinement and leave the project in the state in which it was just before executing the stacking refinement. In this case, when pressing the reset button, the confirmation message that Nebulb will show will be different, since it will refer exclusively to the stacking refinement:
