Error when importing a Nikon RAW file

Error when importing a Nikon RAW file

If, when importing RAW images from some of Nikon’s new camera models (such as the Z8 or the Z6 III),ou see one of the messages shown above, the reason is that Nikon’s new lossless compression format (High Efficiency HE/HE*) is not yet supported by the library that Nebulb uses to interpret RAW files.

The other Nikon RAW formats (uncompressed or lossless compressed) can be imported directly without any issues.

IMPORTANT: For best results in astrophotography, it is strongly recommended to use uncompressed RAW or lossless compressed RAW.

If you already captured your photos in new High Efficiency (HE/HE*) format, we recommend converting them to DNG first so you can then import them into Nebulb with minimal loss.

How to do it directly from Nebulb

Now you can perform the conversion directly from Nebulb:

1. Go to the Image menu at the top and select Import with Adobe DNG Converter.

2. If you don’t already have it installed on your computer, you will see the following message:

3. By accepting, you will be taken automatically to the Adobe DNG Converter website, where you’ll need to select the version that matches your computer (Windows x64, Windows ARM64 or macOS):

4. Once downloaded, run the installer, Nebulb will ask if you have already installed it; you will have to accept and it will be automatically selected in the Image menu.

5. That’s it! You can now load your files directly into Nebulb.

In principle you don't have to flip any image (and even less if you stack in RAW). Nebulb always performs stacking with all images oriented in the same way. This is something that Nebulb manages internally based on the information of the images and ...
