Error when importing a Nikon RAW file

If, when importing RAW images from some of Nikon’s new camera models (such as the Z8 or the Z6 III), you see the message “Error loading some of the images”, the reason is that Nikon’s new lossless compression format (High Efficiency HE/HE*) introduced in its latest cameras is not yet supported by the library Nebulb uses to interpret RAW files.

The other Nikon RAW formats (uncompressed or lossless compressed) can be imported directly without any issues.

IMPORTANT: For best results in astrophotography, it is strongly recommended to use uncompressed RAW or lossless compressed RAW.

That said, if you already captured your photos in Nikon’s new High Efficiency (HE/HE*) format, I recommend converting them to DNG first so you can then import them into Nebulb with minimal quality loss.

For your future night shots, it’s best to set your camera to uncompressed RAW or lossless compressed RAW mode to get the most out of your camera during astrophotography sessions.
